Clone Pilots are icky... so here's a mod...

Ok... as some of you may know, I've been on a real Star Wars kick lately...

...specifically Clone Troopers.

...I've been buying them like friggin' gangbusters - I can't stop myself. Especially since I've seen all the Clone customs out there (and there are a-plenty), all the repaints, etc. I have been working on them as I get free time (which I haven't had a whole heck of a lot of...) and and amassing quite the army (I'll show you how bad it's gotten later).

ANYHOW... the one clone I always disliked, even in the film, was the Clone Pilot. The figure is oh-so-crappy too... just look:




And then, in my surfing for reference material for customs, I found this... the concept art for the Clone Pilots:




Well, spank my ass and call me happy! MUCH nicer... and definitely how they should have gone with the outfits, in the movie and figure.

So, some Apoxie Sculpt and three cans of C2 later...

I bring you my latest WIP (still needs some sanding, and then I gotta do the rest of his body):








I dremelled the crap out of his face, gobbed in some Apoxie and went to town... Whattya think?

It's gonna be a grey/black color too... like the Tie Fighter pilots sort of...

You know, this sculpting thing is kinda fun. I still need some more practice though.

you're gonna add a "lens" thing though, right? that's aboot all it needs to me... I had to give up on buying ROTC figures.... was cutting in on my drug addictions cash... can't have that!

That is kick-ass.

Although I too hate the clone pilot design it is the logical origin for both the rebel pilot helmet and the Tie fighter pilot helmet.

Still... Hasbro should do figs based on concept art for collectors.

Yes, toymank - there will be filler in the notch for his "visor."

Spore... while I agree with you, keep in mind also that the clones evolve into the stormtroopers, so the rebel helmet design stems elsewhere in my opinion. I feel the concept art more closely resembles a logical evolutionary design for what is to become the Tie fighter pilot helmets... and so the damn clones should reflect this... DO YOU HEAR ME LUCAS?!?! [img]wink.gif[/img] Granted, some of the concept drawings are pure shite, case in point, the original designs for Boba Fett (well, most of them... I saw one that was kinda neat). The Episode III concept art had some cool designs, and I'd like to incorporate more of them... granted, knowing the history of Star Wars fandom and their making of every character into a figure that appears onscreen for more than 5 milliseconds, I could see it happening.
